DashLock

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 25, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the DashLock application for Android (package com.pascalheitz.dashlock) handles Your information and tells You about Your privacy rights.

In short: DashLock does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. It has no internet access, no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. Everything the app stores stays on Your phone, unless You choose to share a debug log.

Interpretation and Definitions

Interpretation

The words of which the initial letter is capitalized have meanings defined under the following conditions. The following definitions shall have the same meaning regardless of whether they appear in singular or in plural.

Definitions

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy:

  • Application refers to DashLock, the software program provided by the Developer.
  • Developer (referred to as either "the Developer", "We", "Us" or "Our" in this Agreement) refers to Pascal Heitz, an independent developer.
  • Country refers to: Czechia
  • Device means the Android phone or tablet on which the Application is installed.
  • Personal Data is any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
  • Service refers to the Application.
  • You means the individual accessing or using the Service.

What the Application Does

DashLock watches for Your car's Bluetooth signal. When the car is near, it locks the screen orientation and brightness the way You configured; when the car is gone, it restores Your previous settings. That is the Application's only purpose, and the data it handles exists only to do that job.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following information is saved in the Application's private storage on Your Device. It is never sent to the Developer or to anyone else by the Application.

  • Registered cars: the Bluetooth name and Bluetooth address of each car You add, plus the trigger mode, timing, and display profile You chose for it. Stored so the Application can recognise Your car and apply the settings You configured.
  • Your original brightness and rotation settings, captured when a car session starts. Stored so the Application can restore them when the car is gone, including after a crash or reboot.
  • The list of apps You selected for per-app orientation (package names only). Stored so the rotation lock only applies while one of those apps is in front.
  • Your app preferences, for example whether the status notification is shown.
  • A yes/no flag recording whether DashLock Pro has been purchased, so Pro features work immediately at start-up, before Google Play has replied.
  • A debug log of recent Application events: car connections and disconnections (with Bluetooth addresses), settings applied and restored, changes You make to cars and preferences (including the apps You select for per-app orientation), and error and crash details. It is capped at about 500 KB, and older entries are deleted automatically. Stored so a problem can be investigated after it happened.

The Application has no server and does not request internet access. Uninstalling the Application deletes all of this data.

Sharing the Debug Log

The debug log only leaves Your Device if You tap "Share debug log" in the Application's settings and send it Yourself, through an app You pick (for example Your email app). The shared file contains the debug log described above, plus Your Device model, Android version, which permissions are granted, Your preferences, and Your registered cars. Nothing is sent automatically.

Permissions and Why They Are Needed

  • Nearby devices / Bluetooth: listing paired devices, scanning for Your car when You add it, receiving connect and disconnect events, and, for cars in detection mode, periodically checking whether the car at the registered address answers. Bluetooth scanning is declared as never used for location, and the Application does not derive or store Your location.
  • Modify system settings: changing screen brightness and rotation while a car is near, and restoring them afterwards.
  • Notifications: the persistent status notification with its Pause and Resume buttons while a car profile is active.
  • Usage access: knowing which app is currently in the foreground so per-app orientation can decide whether to lock rotation. Only requested if You turn per-app orientation on. The Application checks the current foreground app and does not record, store, or transmit Your app usage history. The debug log notes when the rotation lock switches on or off, but not which app was in front.
  • Run at start-up, foreground service, ignore battery optimisations: keeping the background service alive so it can react when Your car appears, including after a reboot.

Purchases Through Google Play

DashLock Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Google Play. The Application asks Google Play whether the purchase exists and stores only the yes/no answer. The Developer does not receive Your name, email address, or payment details. Your purchase is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Play terms.

Android Backup

DashLock allows Android's built-in app backup. If You have backup turned on in Your Device settings, Android may copy the Application's settings listed above to Your Google account so they can be restored on a new Device. The debug log is excluded from backup. This is done by Android under Google's terms, not by the Developer, and You can turn it off in Your Device's backup settings.

What the Application Does Not Do

  • No analytics, automatic crash reporting, or usage tracking of any kind. Errors are only written to the debug log on Your Device.
  • No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
  • No user accounts and no sign-in.
  • No access to Your location, contacts, camera, microphone, or files.
  • No sale or sharing of data with third parties.

Your Rights

The Application never sends Your data to the Developer, so there is nothing on the Developer's side to access, correct, export, or delete unless You contact Us. You control all of the Application's data Yourself: edit or remove cars in the Application, or uninstall the Application to delete everything.

If You send Us an email or a debug log, We use it only to answer You and to investigate the problem You reported, and We delete it on request. You can ask Us at any time to access or delete what You sent.

If You are in the European Economic Area and believe Your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) have been affected, You may contact the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů) or the supervisory authority in Your own country.

Children's Privacy

DashLock is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, regardless of age.
